How exciting! Baby Ella will arrive very soon! You are smart to have assembled everything ahead of time, and to be saving up your sleep now. The first few months with a new baby were the most physically and mentally strenuous of my life. I felt like I was a Navy Seal in training! But it really does pass, and there is nothing as soft or as sweet as a newborn. It really is a love like no other.

I'm so happy you are enjoying the Seamstress. I hope its fulfilling all the way through until the end.

Wishing you, your wife, and Ella a safe and speedy delivery.

Looks like a good and varied list to sink your teeth into. Arcadia sure has a memorable title - you can close your eyes and see that book a month after looking at it. I too have a stack of fresh books to read - "The Seamstress" is on there, and just cracked it open last night (yep, until now I've only read your short fiction over the years, and am a unabashed fan based strictly on that work alone). That said, I'm already in another world and loving the novel. Girl can WRITE! :)

And baby Ella is due June 11th. We are really looking forward to her arrival. Nursery is furnished, cribs and huge electric baby swings are built. And I have been sleeping like a rock - saving up for baby time.

I love this book I read it whilst on holiday last year, my copy is a little battered so I was just searching for another when I came across this blog. You are a fantastic author throughout the book I could not stand the anticipation of waiting for Emilia or Luzias narrative to pick up and continue. A fabulous captivating novel I hope you have written more books for me to read this summer, thankyou :)

Very impressive, all of it. Seems like your family brand holds some clout. That LaMarzzoco looks like an impressive piece of kit (I'm into that sort of thing - impressively built equipment, even when I have no real use for it). Almost anything of Italian design tends to blow me away.

And where can we get Yaguara up in the states? Would be fun to try some - since my wife's been preggers she's switched to decaf, and basically, I've gone off coffee altogether because I couldn't stand the withdrawal headaches if I was too lazy to make it one morning.

But I'm sure we'll be back on it when baby arrives. Nice to see you are moving Emilia around too. We definitely intend to travel with our daughter as soon as she's fit for it.

Hi Kate!

I actually thought of you when I was writing this post. Just because you also have girls and I wondered how you felt about all this Disney Princess stuff. I loved the photos of Georgia and June playing EMT's over X-mas. That is the kind of play I hope Emília will engage in. I have nothing against princesses, but I just don't want that to be the ONLY way she learns how to play. THere are so many other fun things to be!

The princesses don't bother me as much as the "spoiled" or "fashionsita" shirts, purses, etc. I viscerally HATE that kind of thing. MOre dangerous than princesses, in my mind, are those kinds of messages, which I think are propelled by reality TV. I love trashy TV. But as an adult, I can watch the Kardashians and see them as funny and trivial, where a little girl might not. She might think that they are aspirational, which is terrifying.

You should check out Orenstein's book from the library if you get a chance. It's worth a read. I'm not sure I'd BUY it again. But it did get me thinking.
